It has been a long time coming, or at least it seems like a long time, but I have waited patiently for Keith Dixon to write another book. I felt like I discovered Keith all those years ago when I picked up Ghostfires, his sensational debut novel. He came right back with a second book, The Art of Losing, which was a patient meditation on, well, losing.
Keith is a friend of the blog, and when I finally got to meet him, it was sort of like meeting a movie star. There is something about him I can not put my finger on. He writes these great books, and he’s so cool in person.
Cooking for Gracie; The Making of a Parent From Scratch just arrived in stores, and it is a book that will surprise most of his fans. He wrote this book about what it is like to be a father. Jonathan and I can both attest to those first few months, how hard it is, and how rewarding. It is really great to see Keith bring a book out into the world that is about something bigger than himself. Sure, fiction can be that way, but writing about being a father, and what it’s like to put yourself second, is really interesting and challenging.
This really is a cookbook, when all is said and done. If you had told me Keith Dixon would write a cookbook, I would have laughed. If you said he would write this cookbook, I would have told you “Of course. He’s Keith Dixon. The guy can do anything”.
